| The quote above comes from the blog post of UCLA archaeology graduate student Jamie Aprile. Jamie and many of her new friends are in Albania. More than 130 students are located around the world in dig sites like Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Chile, Canada, and the United States. And as many of these archaeology field programs end in July and early August, new ones will spring up in northwestern Argentina and then a few months later near Cairo, Egypt. Opportunities also exist in Italy, the UK, and Egypt. They are participating in the UCLA Archaeology Field Program, which is a joint effort of the Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA and the International Education Office. Jamie\'s post, hosted by UCLA Magazine, was made available for the world to read on July 14, 2008. It contains rich detail about the excavation and recording activities her team is conducting. Such blog posts are a means to communicate what is happening with supervisors, friends, parents, casual readers, and participants at other dig sites. In contrast, today\'s learners need more problem solving, creativity, and decision-making skills. If an elearning student prefers blended learning strategies, you could speak at a convention. Instructors and students now have options! There remain problems with this technology, including e-book display devices and organizational aids. People also want more flexibility to take notes on them or the ability to read offline. In effect, the world is open. |
